We are nearly at the end of this wonderful third grade year. It is hard to believe there are only 4 weeks to go! These weeks always seem to fly by, so get ready! The last progress report will go home at the beginning of next week. We have a trip scheduled to Town Hall Estates at the end of the month, and we are waiting confirmation for a field trip to Young Chef's Academy in Ft. Worth. We are hoping to get this field trip scheduled for May 15th. Please be on the lookout for more information to come home soon. The next thing we have scheduled is our Mother's day Tea. We have changed the time from 11:00 a.m.to 10:30 a.m. Please go to to your child's classroom and wait outside their classroom door. We have a few things scheduled for inside the classroom, then we will be moving outside promptly at 11:00 am.

Students may wear dressy clothes for the Mother's Day Tea. This may consist of a dress or skirt for the girls, and pants and a collared, or polo type shirt for the boys.

April 21, 2008

Well, the Spring Musical is finally here! This Thursday, April 24th is the big night! We are still busily making those last minute finishing touches on our routines and costumes so that everyone can shine on this special night. We will be sending home a more detailed note later this week explaining in more detail the specific times and locations for drop off and pick up on the night of the musical. All costume pieces are home! They need to come fully dressed and ready to go on stage! Please try to arrange a light dinner for your child prior to dropping them off at UTA. It is a long evening for the kiddos. And last but not least, please arrive on time so that we can move on to either the stage to perform, or to the balcony, as we wait to go on stage. If you have not purchased your tickets yet, it is not too late! The are on sale through Thursday, and will be on sale the night of at UTA.

We would like to have a cast party on Friday to celebrate how hard everyone has worked on the Spring Musical. We would like to set up a taco bar for the students for their lunch on this day. Ms. Reddehase and I will provide the ground beef. We will be sending notes home requesting additional items from you guys! We will try and make it simple since we will all have a late night on Thursday. Please look for a note to come home on Tuesday with the item your child needs to bring!

Wow, Time is surely flying by quickly! We are down to our last 11 weeks of school! OH MY!! For our next big adventures we will work towards ITBS testing, and Spring Musical. For those of you new to our school, the ITBS is the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. It is a national test given to students across the United States. We will take this week, and the week after spring break to prepare us for the test. During this time, we will practice testing in the style of the ITBS, filling in circles, and answering questions based on the types of questions given by the ITBS! There is no extra studying required, the students prepare for this test throughout their school year! Testing will begin the week of March 31st-April 4th!

Science fair is mandatory for all 3rd grade students! Science Fair projects are due Friday, March 14th! Remember they must have a science board with all the steps of the scientific method listed!

Please come out tonight and support the 6th grade graduating class! Eat at the Cici’s on Bowen just North of Park Row! Bring all your friends and just drop your receipt in the box marked Children’s University.

Their imaginations were great and so were their creations! Science fair is mandatory for all 3rd grade students! We are making ours due on March 14th! Remember they must have a science board with all the steps of the scientific method listed! We extended the due date because it was so close to the date of our Tall Tales! Auction is Friday!! Tickets for the silent auction/dinner at Cacherel’s are still on sale! Now they have raised in price, so we hope everyone bought their tickets last week! It is sure to be a great time with lots of great items to be auctioned off! Enjoy!

Please remember that the students have P.E. Monday-Wednesday. Right now they are doing the Presidential Fitness test which includes running a mile! It is important on P.E. days that the children are wearing tennis shoes and a uniform they can run in! Also to bring a water bottle, short trips to the water fountain aren’t enough to hydrate us after a mile run!

The Business Expo went great! Congratulations to all of our students whose businesses were a great success! The learning opportunities your child had were phenomenal! It crossed all subject areas and we are sure that the students worked hard and were extremely tired. We hope you are all rested and ready to begin a new week of school! A giant thank you goes to all of our wonderful 3rd grade parents. Without you none of the businesses would have been in operation! You decorated, baked, made, and created for your child’s business! This week we will know which group was the biggest earners and which groups made or didn’t make a profit! GOOD LUCK business owners! Our Valentine’s Party will be on February 14th at 11:00 at the Arlington Skatium. We will start loading vans at 10:30-10:45 to head that way. If you signed up to bring something for the party, don’t forget! Lunch is provided. The CONCESSION STANDS will be open if students/parents would like to purchase something other than the lunch provided. If you would like to rent in-line skates, remember an additional $2.00 will be needed there.

February 3, 2008

Business Expo is finally here! Friday, will be the culmination of all of your child’s hard work. They will become the salesman, cashier, and producer of their product! Students must wear their formal uniforms. If their group has a uniform for their business they may change into it after our guest speaker. Children will have an opportunity to view and purchase from other students’ booths on Friday, so they may bring money to purchase products. The Business Expo is an all day event. Please have students at school on time. Parents are welcome to browse, buy, and help during the Expo!

Parents & students it is Children’s University’s policy that students are not allowed to use their cell phones. If cell phones are brought to school, they must be on silent and in your child’s backpack. Please go over this with your child. We are having more and more phones ring during lessons. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

January 22, 2008

Wow! We hope everyone enjoyed their extra two days off for Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope you relaxed and recuperated! We did! Now it is time to buckle down and really get those businesses into high gear! Hopefully your children have been talking about their businesses and what good or service they are planning to have available at the Business Expo on February 8th! Some of these groups need your help to create their final products. If you haven’t talked to your child about their product and their plan, please DO!

A New Year to Look Towards!

Well it is officially 2008! A new year to look forward to, new resolutions to face, and the second half of our school year. We were excited to see the kiddos and to hear about all the holiday fun that each of them had. We hope everyone had a chance to relax and get geared up for the rest of our school year!

December 10, 2007

We officially have seven days of school until we are out for the holidays! The students are getting anxious, as well as the rest of us. We have many things planned and we have several reminders for everyone. Look for reminder notes in your child's folder. First up are our shopping days for our business materials for the Business Expo. Students will be going shopping either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Next thing you need to know is that Friday the 14th is our Polar Express Pajama Day. Next Monday the 17th we will be celebrating the conclusion of our novel by having a Whobilation! We will have our Holiday Party on Tuesday. Our party will be at 1:45 in the gym.

December 7, 2007

Parents we want to thank you so much for all the work, time, and money you have given over the last week!

Our Angel Tree Jar is full of tickets that your children have donated to give another child a brighter Christmas!

We gathered over 350 toys for Toys for Tots and your children have definitely brightened my Holidays!

Happy Holidays! Don't forget to return your report cards and Friday is Positive Thinking Day! Guest Speaker Suzie Humphries will be here to motivate us!

December 2, 2007

It is so hard to believe we are beginning the second week of the third six weeks. This year is just flying by. The holiday season is also just around the corner. This always is a busy and fun time for us all. Soon you should be contacted concerning our holiday party and gift exchange. Our party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18th at 1:45. Our toy drive is still going on. We are encouraging each student to bring in at least one toy to donate to this worthy cause. This Friday we will be welcoming a special guest speaker to CU. Her name is Suzie Humphries. She used to announce the traffic on the radio many years ago. She currently travels abroad as a motivational speaker. She will be speaking to the faculty as well as the students about positive thinking and positive attitudes. We look forward to this special day. This guest speaker will be the official kickoff to a week long of positive thinking activities in and out of the classroom. Be sure to talk to your child about what they are discovering. Report cards came home Friday. Please sign and return these as soon as possible. Please let us know if you have any questions. We have been a little more strict on missing assignments and late work. Students are given a daily reminder of assignments that are missing and told how long they have in which to turn them in. We are asking the third graders to donate to our Angel Jar. We have asked the kids to maybe give up an ice cream or donate some of their chore money to help buy presents for someone who may otherwise not receive any. Every time a student donates to our jar he or she gets to put their name in for a drawing to be held in two weeks. One student from each third grade will be invited to go with us to select an Angel from the tree at the Parks Mall. We will use the money collected to purchase gifts for the chosen person or persons.

November 26, 2007

The next few weeks will go by fast and we have a lot planned! Pay close attention to notes that come home and be on the look out for emails concerning the Holiday Party. We have lots going on this week--well the next couple of weeks--check the special events and the calendar pages!

Our Style Your Sole Fashion show will be on Tuesday, November 13th, at 2:15. The representatives from our class will be personally sporting their designer Toms Shoes! It should be a great time! Toms shoes are a company that do great charity work! They donate a pair of shoes for every pair of shoes they sell! What a great idea! In honor of the Style Your Sole Fashion Show, we are having a shoe drive! Bring your new plain, white shoes to your child’s class! The class who donates the most pairs of shoes will win a special celebration.

Monday, November 19th, we will have our first Business Seminar. Your child will need to dress in their formal uniforms. Those are the same uniforms they wore for their pictures. Today will include Election Day lessons. We will hear speeches from candidates running for student council and will have a special lunch. At 1:00 Mayor Robert Cluck, of Arlington will be speaking to our students!

There will be no newsletter next week as Monday will be the Business seminar and Tuesday will be our feast! There will be no school, Wednesday-Friday!

Thank you to all those wonderful parents that made our Fall Party Fabulous! Mrs. Thurmond put together a fantastic gathering! It was only a success, because of all of you! From those that worked the parties, to those of you that brought food, and helped with the craft! You are all awesome! Thank you for your understanding when we rearranged the tests. When we scheduled our Science tests we didn’t realize that it would fall on the day after Halloween! Hopefully, our postponing helped those of you who needed to study some more! Progress Reports come home today. Remember, that the grades on the progress reports do not reflect the lowest grade dropped. Please sign one copy and return to school. As always if you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact us.

Our Fall Party will be Wednesday at 2:00, in Town Square. The children will be having a special pizza lunch for the day’s festivities and will start the party after P.E. Remember, your child may dress in costume for the day. We ask that your child’s costume not be to scary and can be easily taken on and off. If your child prefers not to dress in a costume they may dress freely , and do not have to wear their uniforms for the day.

Thursday we will be having a science test over Unit B in Science. It will cover the three states of matter and their properties.

Friday we will have our second DLR test and will need to be prepared. Look over Units 5-10 in the Daily Language Review Book!

October 21, 2007

Our Fall Costume party plans are set! Please remember to send in your $4.00 by Friday for our Pizza Party on October 31st. They have great games, crafts, and treats planned for us! If you would like to bring something for the party or would like to volunteer to help please let us know and we will forward that on to Mrs. Thurmond.

We are into our 3rd week of this six weeks. That means progress reports will go out next week and we will have a DLR test soon! Look for more information on that soon!

Just a reminder for our students and parents. Our grading policy is that we deduct 10 points from every day your child’s assignment is late. After three days it still needs to be completed but will receive a zero. Some of the students are having a tough time getting their assignments turned in on time. We have discussed this with our students. Hopefully, this will help the problem.

Mrs. Thurmond & Mrs. Crawford have volunteered to help plan our Fall Holiday Party. Look for an email and note to come home soon for details! Both Ms. Reddehase and Mrs. Harbolt appreciate them volunteering to put this party, and future parties together for us!

Report cards will be coming home Friday. Please sign and return one copy. If you feel like you would like a conference please check the box on the back of the report card and we will contact you as soon as possible!

What a great 1st week we had! Your kids are awesome! We had so much fun at CRAZY DAY! Your children actually got to wrap their teacher up like a mummy! The first part they wrapped up was my mouth--think they were tired of hearing me talk? Wow, if the first week was any indication of your kiddos, we are going to have a phenomenal year!
